Azalea bonsai – curiosity : azalea bonsai in Japan is the symbol of Spring.

Exposure and temperatures : azalea is an acidophilic plant that in the house can not be grown in any place. During the winter days the plant must be placed in a bright and dry place, far from cold air currents. While in the evening it is advisable to preserve it from thermal shocks, spontandola in a sheltered and cool place like a veranda or the plane of the stairs.  In Spring, however, it is advisable to expose it to the morning sun to promote the development of a flowering and a compact and uniform vegetation. Finally, in Summer, azalea should be sheltered from the sun all day as it fears high temperatures.

Soil : fresh and moist soil but without stagnation. Avoid the “dry strokes” typical of the summer season,  which can cause the death of azalea. It is necessary, therefore, to proceed to irrigate the soil as soon as it begins to dry.

Irrigation : azalea is an acidophilic plant, therefore, it will have to be watered with calcium-free water. Distilled or rainwater should be used during irrigation.
